I put one on my project. Expect video dropouts from Rabbit type (i.e. 900
MHz) devices, when the robot goes behind trees, dense walls, and other
areas. If you're using the video to drive the robot remotely, you'll have
to back out of such areas, or bull your way through them in the hopes that
the video will come back.
I bought a camera at a local surplus electronics store, but you can get
'em for about $130 at JDR Microdevices, or Supercircuits, both have Web
sites. They usually use 12V power and put out NTSC analog signals which
will go right into your TV, transmitter, or VCR. The transmitter will
cost another $70 bucks or so. I tried a $1000 transmitter to avoid the
video nulls, but the improvement, while substantial, wasn't worth the
price. This is the one problem I haven't been able to solve (yet), but I'm
trying to get reliable video from all around outside the house to inside
the house, a tall order. Between the FCC and the laws of physics, I'm
stumped. Any ideas, anybody?

| The Wavecom Jr. from RFLink (~170$ for a xmit/receive pair) does color video and stereo audio in the 2.5Ghz band. Much better than the 900Mhz stuff. Can get it from Sharper Image (1-800 something...call 1800 555 1212 and ask). Can run off 12V (...) (28 years ago, 4-Dec-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
