    Useful sets
Has anyone bought set 8446? It is a "Forestry Machine" with six wheels (seems to be stearable in pairs) and with a huge gripper arm. Seems useful for robotics - I will perhaps buy one for Christmas.... - kjell krona (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I was looking at couple of set just yesterday and of all the sets they had in the shop I thought that one was the most interesting, but there is a couple of special lego pieces in the set that I find a bit excessive and less usefull.      I've got a 8443, it has a turntable and a basic set of pneumatics but best of all it has six small wheels. Now I just have to dismantle it to build one of those walking dog things.    (...) Other than the turntable and a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism, you don't get much. There are a few pneumatics parts, but no air tank. The gripper arm uses penumatics, and that's very difficult to adapt to the RCX. Tilman (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I think you think that they think it's an 8443 Log Loader. It's really the big ugly green thing with the silver coloured baloon tire hubs in the Christmas Catalog. This looks like a neat model for gears and wheels, but the gripper looks like a (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)

8446 (the green monster) isn't very fit to be RCX controlled, (but technic pieces are useful anyhow). It's a strange but clever model in itself. A selfcontained 'pneumatic' plunge is used to push up the front cabin, triggered by a mechanical lever. (...) (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)
