Jose (and other members of this group).

I'm one of the founders of Northwoods Software, creators of Sanscript.  We
saw a flurry of registrations at our web site this week as a result of this
note.  Thanks!

Sanscript is a visual dataflow programming language.  It was designed by
people who had spent their careers on programming tools, such as Ada, LISP,
4GLs, and CASE tools.  So, while we think it is easy and fun to use, it also
has things like user definable types (records), lists, and structured
exception handling.

We've been interested in Lego Mindstorms for over a year, but just haven't
had the time to do anything with it (so many APIs, so little time).

The function icons and especially their names
are not that great, but everything seems to
work. It's certainly more fun to program in
Sanscript than in VB or VC++, IMHO.

Sanscript just imports what's in the type library of the OCX.  It seems to
be a fact of life that most COM/ActiveX interfaces are ugly.  The good news
is that with Sanscript, you can easily build a cabinet of higher level
components (or icons) that have better names and icons.

So, what would be cool is if some of you work together to create a "cabinet"
of Sanscript components that layers on top of the Lego Spirit API.  That
cabinet can then be distributed and imported into Sanscript by anyone that
wants to use it.

So, here's my offer:  I'll get you a free copy of Sanscript if you
participate in this effort. (I better limit this free offer to those that
contact us by 12/15/99)

Go to www.nwoods.com or http://www.trulyvisual.com (they are the same web
siite).  When you register for the Free Trial, mention "Lego" in the "how
did you find us" field.  I'll put together the list of names that are
interested and contact you.

Getting way ahead of myself... if this all works out, Northwoods can look at
creating a "Mindstorms edition" of Sanscript, perhaps limited in some way,
but at a price more acceptable as an add-on to a $200 robot.  (currently
Sanscript is $149, and Pro is $499.)

Hello everyone. I'm new to this list and to Lego Mindstorms. I bought version 1.0 last week (well, actually 4 weeks ago if you consider the eToys shipping delay). It's great so far, of course. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried to control (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-96, to lugnet.robotics)
