Hmmm. Two things:
(1) I can usually identify a bad battery in the set because it will not
charge (the charging light/LED stays on forever), but this is obviously not
always true.
(2) It would be _really_ easy to rig up an external power pack. I, too, have
found the battery replacement in certain models a bit tricky.
