If any of you are having trouble grabbing/viewing the embedded QuickTime
Video of the Bungee jump (at
http://www.legomindstorms.com/home/robotour99/101499e.html ), I managed to
nab it using a machine that doesn't have QT installed, and can post it to
the Web or e-mail it.

I was surprised! The text of the article made me think the robot was doing
something more akin to rappelling, but this is an honest-to-goodness bungee
jump--of a fairly heavy robot yet. (I don't think I'd dare to do it with my
RCX ...)

A follow-up an a thread which still seems to be batted about:

The Lego MindStorms Web site has an article on a MindStorms robot that • made
a 30-meter bungee jump. Text, photos, and a QuickTime clip are available • at
http://www.legomindstorms.com/home/robotour99/101499e.html

Hmmm, so it's been done.
Well, you never know what you can do with Lego till you try it.
Skydiving should be a piece of cake.

What next?
Since it has been confirmed that RCXs aren't afraid of heights, may I • suggest a
cliff hanging bot?

(...) What kind of intelligence is needed for a robot to do bungee jumping? How does a Mindstorms robot jump better than, say, a Furby tied to the bungee cord and pushed off the plank? Cheers, Hao-yang Wang (25 years ago, 9-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
