It would seem easier to put the laptop on a platform with the camera ON
the bot. You would then have to worry about phone and power, but you
could use a cellular connection, or a coupler with a cordless (haven't
tried the later for data) and an extension cord or solar power if you
were outside.

Last time I saw any specs, USB had a distance limit of around 6 feet,
though
that may have changed by now.

It is great!!

I do not know if you considered the use of a Internet Cam attached to
an USB
port (and enought wire) to let the rob move around and obtain visual
information to analyse and process later (Rel 1.0). My stimation is
that I
will need about 12t wire to keep the cam and the laptop in connected
without
problems.

There is the problem of the load, but I need more the elephant speed
than a
cheetah.

I am intrigued about the motion sensor. Is any spare part from S@H?
Are you
connecting a commetial motion sensor to the RCX and controlling the
states?

David

(...) There are a number of these small video cameras and low power transmitters to show up on TV. Why not mount one of them, use one of the TV tuner card in the computer. The parts are on my Christmas list. I don't have an ad here but there a re a (...) (26 years ago, 25-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)
