Actually, since I'd assume the Mindstorms sets are lagging in popularity
(things like that always have an initial spike and then a downward trend
in sales) a variety of SW Mindstorms add-on sets would be just the thing
for TLG to boost sales, so that wouldn't surprise me at all. The technics
toys are much more surprising to me, since they overlap directly with
kits that are already for sale (tie-fighter and X-wing.)

This has been discussed very intensely on the star wars list here at
lugnet. I subscribe to it in digest form- none of the huge volume, but I
can still keep up with interesting stuff. Check there for a URL for the
picture you are referring to, including confirmation of several of the
sets on that list.

Perhaps this is just me (I've seen the movie twice, so forgive me) but
Kaadus? Huh? Did I miss something?
