I don't have the 8448 or the RCX for that matter but I may have a partial solution for you. I've found that steering is a perfect application for the Micro Motor (part # 5119). The motor is very small but provides a surprising amount of torque. It (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I think someone posted to the list that the micromotor has an internal shutoff when it stalls, so that it can't burn out the coils. This seems consistent with what I see when playing with the motor. If I turn it on an then stall it with my (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)
