Actually, I retract what I said about the light sensor and the touch
sensor, but not on the grounds you stated, or at least on clearer grounds
than you seemed to explain. (That you can configure the touch sensor or
bias the photodetector seems to imply that you suggest adding components to
the standard LEGO-only system, which I assumed was not possible, since the
post I was responding to had placed such a restriction...)
I had forgotten that the light sensor never drops its voltage as low a
pressed light sensor does, and therefore you can at least tell when the
touch sensor is being pressed no matter how bright the light. With that in
mind, you can use raw sensor readings to read the light sensor when the
touch sensor is not pressed, and you can detect touch sensor presses when
the raw reading drops sufficiently low.
