Several Mac/Mindstorms options are covered at:

I use NQC myself, although since I wrote it, I'm somewhat biased. If you
are even slightly familiar with C syntax, NQC should be easy to pick up.
The Apple IR port can run in two mode- one is IrDA, the other is a special
Apple mode, and neither are directly compatilble with the RCX. There has
been discussion now and then about how to make an IrDA port spoof the RCX
IR stuff, but I don't know of anyone actually doing this on a Mac. I
considered trying it briefly, then decided that the IR port is actually in
a terrible position for Mindstorms work and that I'd prefer the external
transmitter anyway. I like working on my robots next to the computer, not
behind the LCD.

| I'd like to thanks everybody who helped me get my rcx up and running on my Mac... I am now using NQC though I will probably order Robolab and/or IC in the near future just for the sake of having them. I've found that NQC/MPW is a little buggy in (...) (26 years ago, 4-Mar-99, to lugnet.robotics)
