Hi Steven,

Lego's documentation will probably take
you through your first half-dozen robots. Although
it moves a bit slowly (especially the Guided
mode of the software), Lego's documentation
is excellent and thorough. The Constructopedia
is pretty good too, particularly the "Special Features"
and "Tips & Tricks" sections.

Nobody, me included, has a book out on
Mindstorms yet.
