I'm looking at the Pitsco / Lego Dacta catalog, in the "Spare Parts"
section at the back, and there's an intriguing item called "Sound
Element" (catalog number N779885).
It looks like a 1-brick-high cylinder with a 2x2 square base, and costs
$9.75 by itself, which is expensive enough that I assume it's some sort
of electronic component (this theory bolstered by the fact that it's on
the same page as the various motors and sensors).
Does anyone know what this thing is/does? Is it a microphone of some
sort? A speaker? Both?

| Dacta #779885 appears to the the 9V siren that LEGO has included in some of the fire equipment sets. It has two different sirens, one U.S. style, one European style. They can be switched by reversing the polarity or by rotating the round top. The (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)
