That is exactly what I was hoping my students would learn -- and they did.
I'm glad to know there are others using the MindStorms successfully with
children.

I was amazed at how much my kids enjoyed building and how long they would work
"debugging" their inventions.
Indeed yes.  My son discovered Lego Technic at age 5 and by the time he
was 7 he had got through them all - ie up to Space Shuttle.  He started
the shuttle on a Sunday, and finished by Tuesday evening (with school on
Monday/Tuesday).  He is the sort of kid who never stands or sits still
normally.  Seeing comments here, I see that the complex Lego has the
same effect on others.  His birthday (with RCX) isn't for 15 days ( he
has been counting down for two months) - he already plans to modify the
shuttle to fit the RCX.  This applies to pretty well all the lego models
involving motors - and most of the complex Technic models are far better
engineered - other than the RCX itself and the sensors of course.
