I'm new to this group so I don't know if this idea has been mentioned but here
it is:
First, I connect the two motors in the MindStorms kit together with a wire and
nothing else. Below is a crude ASCII art representation:
*********** ***********
* * (wire) * *
*** Motor A *----------------* Motor B ***
* * * *
*********** ***********
When I turn the rotor of motor A, motor B also rotates. The amount of rotation
in motor B closely matches the rotation of motor A.
This "feature" can be useful. I've build a car with 4WD where I've used two
motors connected in this way instead of a differential. I've build another
version of this car where I've connected four motors (one for each wheel).
I'd like other ideas on using motors this way in robots and if it can damage
the motors. I'd appreciate any help on locating such info.
Thanks
Denny

| (...) In this case one motor is being used as a generator and the other as a motor, correct? You aren't powering both motors. I think its neat, but don't understand the use of it in the context of 4wd. The differential is much smaller then two (...) (26 years ago, 25-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
