And what about other sensors?  Might a NXT to 9V converter cable hook up a
regular NXT sensor?

The NXT to 9V cable is for the "old" 9v system that has two wires.
The new Power Function system has four wires, and the NXT has six.

Actually, now that you force me to pay attention, I was thinking of the #8886
Power Function to 9V cable, which can connect to NXT via the NXT to 9V cable.
But of course, given that stack-up of kludges, there is a wire pair missing, at
least as far as sensors are concerned :(

But since we can get the 8886 cable and the NXT connectors, small amounts of
hackery should be able to lash them up... as you say:

Out of the box, I don't think it will be possible to interchange NXT &
WeDo electronics.  But, it's a good bet AFOLs will be working on it
pretty quickly...   :)

I'm primed.  My main barrier to progress is that my Lego co-conspiritor, my 9 YO
daughter, is busy building a #10175, a project which put our robotics and Power
Function experiments on hold for a while.  So much Lego, so little time...
