It depends on your hardware.  Are you running your OS on IA32/x86 hardware?  If
so, then you can use the NXT with your OS using some of my utilities.  See this
NXTASY thread for details about running NBC and NeXTTool under Ubuntu with
built-in communication support for the NXT via USB and Bluetooth.

Included in this thread is an attachment containing binaries of NeXTTool and NBC
beta 35 (preview) which support brick communications under Linux on x86
hardware.
