If I understand your description, it is similar to a kids toy I've seen
(this one was a fast-food giveaway from Disney's _Lion King_ promotion)
The toy is a longish wind-up car, but the key, instead of being on the
side,
is in the back, and rotates around the long side of the car.
Additionally,
the key is long and curves to follow the car surface, rather like the
clip
on a pen. When wound and released, the car rolls on its wheels for a
distance
and the key traverses the upper half. Then the key reaches the floor,
and pushes
the car over, rolling it over onto the wheels again, where it repeats
until
the spring winds down.
You would need to make sure the lever will rotate enough to right the
frog,
regardless of ladning orientation.
