All,
I am the brand new owner (wellll, by proxy...it's officially for a rookie
FLL team which I am coaching :-) ) of an NXT.
Because of my penchant for reading about and wanting to know as much about
any new toy I get as possible, I have been perusing with some interest the
threads here and across the blogsphere regarding the firmware updates for
the NXT brick.
I understand that the latest USB driver from LEGO resolves the problem
that some had when loading new firmware onto their bricks (I will try to
avoid the "bricking the brick" puns that suggest themselves here), and
know that this should no longer be a concern anymore.
However, the brick that came with our Education set for the FLL came stock
with 1.01 firmware. I have thought about updating it, but I really
dislike the thought of "upgrading" to something without a downgrade path
in place should something go wrong or should I run across a bug that would
be crippling to me. I understand that most people are running 1.03
without incident, but -- call it a personality quirk of mine; I've just
been burned too many times by not retaining a copy of the old software --
I still hesitate to do so unless I can find a way to back out and return
things to their original state.
With regard to this particular firmware update, it appears that LEGO has
left most of us without an escape route. 1.03 is the only version that
appears on the CD, and LEGO has not put up for download ANY versions of
their firmware.
And, as far as I can tell, there is also no changelog posted to tell me
what the differences are between 1.01 and 1.03, or to indicate to me why I
would want to upgrade. Aren't these things documented somewhere?
Anyway, to sum up, I'm looking for a copy of firmware version 1.01 for the
NXT brick in case I need/want to go back to it. Is this beast available
anywhere still? Does anybody here have a copy kicking around, maybe from
their MDP days?
Thanks a bunch!

| (...) Nathan, Unfortunately, I don't think V1.01 was ever posted anywhere for public distribution. I know V1.03 includes some fixes for the I2C used by 3rd party sensors. Steve (18 years ago, 15-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)

| I think you'll be happy with simply upgrading to 1.03. You may be ultra-conservative in wanting to back up 1.01. I don't have a copy of 1.01 but here's what you can do to create your own image. It will require some effort on your part. Go to (...) (18 years ago, 15-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics)
