An example of this is here: <http://carol.wins.uva.nl/~leo/lego/hands.html>
using <http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/6542> that can engage with any
of the technic 1x plates :
2719 Technic Plate 1 x 10 with Holes
4263 Technic Plate 1 x 4 with Holes
4262 Technic Plate 1 x 6 with Holes
4442 Technic Plate 1 x 8 with Holes
Another version without that clutch part is here
<http://robert.cailliau.free.fr/ByLetter/L/Lego/Models/Clock/Hands/HandsWelcome.html>
but the author seems to have drilled out the axel home on 24t gear, as
I can't find one on Peeron.
I've never seen one driven by a differential. Any references?

| (...) I've seen this done a) with a new style differential - it will spin free on a central axle and has a 24t gear at one end and a 16t at the other. b) two 16t "clutch" gears connected either via the toothed bearings, or via the driving ring (...) (20 years ago, 26-Oct-04, to lugnet.robotics)
