Building solid structures out of LEGO is something of an art form. Fred Martin
wrote an article called "The Art of LEGO Design" which is available as an Adobe
PDF at ftp://cherupakha.media.mit.edu/pub/people/fredm/artoflego.pdf. It's about
a 2M download. You may want to check it out.
