LEGO came out with a a Mindstorms set called "Exploration Mars" the same
year that Mindstorms itself came out.
Lego Mindstorms' ActiveX control is called SPIRIT.OCX.
NASA's latest Mars rover is named Spirit.
Does anyone else find this to be a freaky coincidence? Or were the
people at LEGO who designed Mindstorms in the know about what NASA's
lander launched only last year was going to be called?

| (...) Have you noticed how names and concepts developed in 'Star Trek' have been transferred to NASA's space program? Do you doubt there is top-secret work to develop a food-replicator? (This is really going off-topic...?! My apologies.) Jerry (21 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.robotics)

| (...) It's just a coincidence. I was working at LEGO at the time and it had nothing to do with NASA. Also, as others have pointed out, the name Spirit came from a contest for schoolkids, and is one of a pair of rovers, the other being Opportunity. (21 years ago, 21-Jan-04, to lugnet.robotics)
