See that black thing at the far end of the ribbon cable (on the right in
the photo)?
That's a socket for a wall wart. I used the ribbon cable so that it
would come out of the battery compartment through the notch.
One thing you need to watch out for when building this: the pins on the
7809 are easily broken. I would suggest enclosing the whole thing
(regulator and pins) in a large piece of heat shrink tubing once you
have everything connected.
And one more thing, which I probably don't need to tell you: Watch your
polarity!
