Perhaps A4 is too small as a "unit" - two A4 sheets together would be
better. The pattern should be crosshatched rather than grey-scale so it's
more consistently reproduced on inkjet printers. And the sheets could be
downloaded off the web so anyone can set up their own track.

Even two A4 sheets would make for rather tight turns if it's going to
fit together like a jigsaw.
