ok here is what i have been up to.

i am running windows 2k sp3.  I have a brand new 1.5 set.  i hooked up the
infra red unit to serial port 2.

First I uninstalled my current version of quicktime.

then i installed the full install from the cd.

installed quicktime 2 and 3 and direct x 6.1

finished installation and restarted the computer.

tried to launch mindstorms and the screen goes black.  it says loading...

and ... nothing.

so unless it takes like 4 years to load and i'm lacking in patience then
something isn't working.

so I kill the process probe.exe that seems to be the lego exacutable
(ctr+alt+del)  What I then see is an aleart: Macromedia Director and it says
something about how it needs at least 3 mb of virtual memory to run.

I don't know why this doesnt work.  I have a lot of system here with about
every piece of hardware that you can imagine hooked up.  but everything
elese i use works fine.
Started playing with other software packages that are supposed to run in
windows and have found Brickx command center , and  RCX command center which
seem like the same basic program.  they both find the brick, but don't seem
to have any luck controling it directly or programming it.  but i have the
feeling that i may not be doing something correctly at this stage.

iuf anyone has any experience with these programs please get in touch and
let me pick your brain.

This problem blows I'm so jealous of you guys that just installed it in 2000
and got it working.  my friend is going to give me an old copy of 98, and
i'm going to make my machine dual boot in 98 but I think that is a weak
answer to this problem.  I hope that TLC gets it together and writes
software for us that is compatible with a real operating system.
