Hello,

I'm not sure, but my guess is that there is a similar approach.

Someone has posted a current solution for XP, but you need to have a copy of the
installed VC directory off of a win98/winMe installation first.  Unfortunately,
it involves the backup and manipulation of 200MB of data -- something a little
cumbersome if you only have 1 computer and it already has XP or 2000 on it.

In the next couple days I'll set up an XP system and begin looking into a more
universal solution.

Rob,

Thanks for taking the time to create and post these directions.  I am
considering installing VC on XP.  Do you know if the apcompat.exe file (or
something similar) is used to achieve compatibility for the XP OS?  Thanks.

Laura

I created a "How-to" here:
http://www.abs-robotics.com/tips/install/win2k/vc.htm

The instructions have been broken down into 4 pages to compensate for all
the application snap-shots.  There are approximately 50 steps, most of which
comprise of "clicking next/continue/finish/OK".  The pages may take some
time to load on a slow connection.

I performed the installation twice.  The first time was to see if my hunch
would even work.  The 2nd time, I made all the images.

To test out the installation, I removed the batteries from an RCX so VC
would perform the 2.0 firmware update.  I then (painfully) stepped through
all the
training videos again to make sure VC, RIS, and RCX interaction worked the
way it should.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but will most likely experiment with VC and XP Pro this weekend (although I did play with just plugging in the camera and letting XP detect it, then using the Movie Maker and Digital Camera software that comes with (...)
