This reminded me that I need to purchase another one of these...  You are
absolutely right, they are awesome!

If you find these at a local store that sells fishing equipment, look for the
3700 StowAway trays sold separately (those are the trays that the 1234 comes
with).  The old version of the 3700 has twice as many compartment areas.  (Plano
is currently taking note of customers requesting that the old mold be put back
in production.)

The 3620 is a shallow version of the 3700 and has a higher compartment
resolution, so it may be well suited for pins, pegs, and bushings.

A fourth tray (3620 or 3700) can fit under the lid of the tackle-box if you
don't want to use 3500's or the gray tackle plates.

8.5x11 paper fits between tray gaps in the lower section.  That's where I keep
design ideas I print out from the web.

Plano's website is http://www.planomolding.com for anyone interested.

And... how do you store your parts for Lego Mindstorms?

I am sure some of us have gone to the extreme... having at least 6+ RIS
systems (well over $1500.00 of Mindstorm related parts) and have spent equal
amounts on fantastic wall mounted and labelled storage systems that fit
directly over our dedicated Mindstorms workbench(es).

And, there are those of us who have one RIS set and use the original box as
our storage system.

Just this last weekend I set up a storage system at home that might be for
the "rest of us". It is a Plano model 1234 Tackle box (the kind used for
fishing). They can be found for about $25. A link follows. I bought two of
these and found the two were able to accomodate my sets (which are : 3 RIS
sets plus a Mars set, a Ultimate Builders set, and assorted other parts
(chains, extra gears, homebrew sensors, etc.).

I find it a great system that provides good resolution for parts in the
adjustable "bins"... with the excellent feature of being extremely portable.
(the height of the trays is enough to support most parts - other tackle box
systems may have shallower trays).

Just tought I'd mention it.

The 1234 is a great system - until you need to take your collection in the air. If you want to check that box, then you'll need to wrap the whole thing in bubble pad and put in a box. For air travel, I prefer the Plano 1258 as noted on my website. (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.robotics)
