Great job Steve!! I *KNEW* someone must have built one already!
As soon as I saw Iain's post I started thinking about it, and quickly
built one. Although not as pretty or sturdy as Steve's, it works
nonetheless. Since I don't have access to a digital camera right now,
I built a simplified version of it in LDRAW. Mainly it's missing axles
and a few liftarms compared to my physical model. The distance between axle
centers is 7 studs, which does create some friction. It relies on the
4x4 round bricks
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?PartID=2577,
and is therefore not a purely-technic solution.
