Hi all I was wondering  can I hook up a real radio control reseiver
up to my 4x4 off road technic truck ( the adavance model ) for $119.
???

if so is it easy as sodering a few lego eletric plates to the
reseiver???

and use it as a sensor????

I have actually created a similar device, and am in the testing
phase now.  It connects to your RC receiver, and then outputs the
IR commands to the RCX to drive the motors.  It effectively works
just like the IR remote for driving the 3 outputs, but you can use it
without line of sight.  I currently have it working with a Futaba
8UAPS.

I hope to post information soon to this list on how to get one.  You
can eMail me if you have questions or comments.

(...) Does it work with a Futaba 8UHFS? <grin> Consider me interested! The silly IR works a lot less well than line-o-sight; you need to be within 8 feet and pointed more or less at it and vice-versa. Can it also send the 1,2,3 messages, or more? (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) You could probably do that - but you'd have to write RCX software to decode the pulse-width modulated signals from the radio control system. If you can write good software then that might be possible with something like the LegOS firmware - (...) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics)
