    Re: power source —Trevyn Watson
This was just discussed on lugnet.robotics.rcx. I have an rcx 2.0, and you can see what I did here: (URL) used a 7809 voltage regulator. Note that this requires some basic electronics and soldering skills. I would not use a wall wart, because the (...) (23 years ago, 12-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

        RE: power source —Kingsley Gifford
I'm sorry, I can't really make out that photo. Do I just connect the 7809 ic between the power supply and the rcx? Do I connect to the + or - or use 2 and connect to both? thanks -----Original Message----- From: news-gateway@lugnet.com (...) (23 years ago, 12-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: power source —Trevyn Watson
You're right, I didn't realise it wasn't very clear. What you do is you connect the positive wire from your power supply to pin 1* of the 7809. Then connect the ground of the RCX and the power supply to pin 2. Connect pin 3 to the positive battery (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: power source —Mathias Uhr
hi! (...) if you use an unregulated supply, you need to add a big capacitator in front of the ic (after rectifing of course)! generally, they advice to use an electrolyt capacitator of sufficient size (there are formulas for this) for filtering and (...)         Re: power source —Trevyn Watson
(...) What I meant when i said "unregulated" was a power supply without a 78xx in it. The power supply that I am using consists of a transformer, rectifier (4 diodes) and a 4700uf cap. This means that while it does give a clean voltage, that voltage (...) (23 years ago, 13-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: power source —Matthias Jetleb
(...) Actually, it is regulated (speaking as one who has had to replace the fuse that comes before the regulator). Think about it. It has to be. The batteries provide 9V, the MCU requires 5V. If it wasn't regulated, you'd kill it. There is also a (...) (23 years ago, 14-Feb-02, to lugnet.robotics)
