| | John, if I am thinking of the same piece (cross axle w/ eyes #16, 1995) that can be found at (URL) I am aware of at least two very similar piece that is 6 studs (fairly sure) long. They are meant to accept a ball to form a ball-joint. Check out (URL) (26 years ago, 18-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

| | | | Hi: (...) The cross axle w/ eyes (Lego's name, not mine!) was in only 1 technic set, the small front end loader 8235 (1995). It differs from the two tie rods in that the tie rods can accept a ball joint but the axle w/ eyes cannot. The cross axle (...) (26 years ago, 19-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
