It appears to me that the solutions provided so far are 2 way. You have two
devices, each one is a transceiver/receiver. The IR Tower talks to one, it
translates to radio signal, send the signal to the other device, and then
the other device translates back to IR and talks to the RCX. From what I
read, it sounds like it goes the opposite way as well, but I would be sure
to verify that before purchasing, especially from Australia! I have an email
in to the company with similar questions. If anything useful comes out, I'll
let you all know. In the mean time, if anyone knows of a better system, I'm
all ears. Myself, I would prefer something smaller that could maybe even be
hardwired into the RCX(with modification to the body of course. I'm more
worried about function than form, so melting a little plastic won't kill
me(unless I inhale too many fumes that is!) So in closing, I'm still up for
suggestions about how to Boost the range of the IR Tower be it conversion to
radio, or just a better IRED.

I have been watching this thread with great interest, having
struggled almightily to solve the problem myself.

I would like an explanation of how a one directional "extender"
of one sort or another (IR or RF) is going to work with the
RCX which requires two way communications.

I suspect the average booster, if used in pairs, nose to tail
so to speak, would simply feed back on its own signal and
not correctly handle two way communications.

I await enlightenment .... (excuse the pun ;)
