A lot of computer connectors are designed for "installation" connection,
not repeated connect and disconnect. I would suggest you install a short
male to female "pigtail" cable to relieve wear and tear on your already failing
connector. Use of such a pigtail will relax the need to continually connect
and disconnect as well as possibly providing a more convenient location
to attach to, rather than having to grope around behind your PC and possibly
try and push the connector in crooked.
I would advise anybody with an IR tower to do this. You can buy the connectors
and wire from your local Radio Shack if you want to make your own, or just buy
a m-f six foot serial cable. Their cables even have the little 4-40
coupling nuts
for a mechanically sound cable to cable connection.
