I have an answer to this. You don't need a computer to program it and it's
easier for younger children (or adults that don't want to get on the
computer) to play with.
I was thinking more in terms of having the programming interface be in the
transmitter (simple digital interface or pot). In the real world analog
sensors input their signal into a transmitter which is programmable ( for
providing various signals. I have been contemplating this. I had a baby last
year, and I had a rough pregnancy. Thus I have not spent a lot of time with
my Mindstorms sets. I just got Dave Baum's books for Christmas and I need to
finish reading about the physical interfaces of the components.

| (...) Yeah, it's called an RCX ;) I have no idea why the RDS brick has any real appeal in the face of competition from the RCX one. No active sensor capability, and only 1k of room for programs? Even at Lego's $129 for the RCX, if you already have a (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)
