Hmmm...I was thinking about this after I saw the Palm Pilot based robot
kit on Slashdot. How about a modified interface board that connects
with the Palm Pilot via the serial port and then it has an array of
RCX compatible Inputs and Outputs that communicates with Mindstorms
Motors/Sensors and other things. Seems like the the controller board
for the Palm Pilot robot is pretty powerfull:
Serial Servo Controller (SSC) Board:
Pontechs SV203 board was used to connect the Palm Pilot to servomotors
and infrared rangefinders. The board can control up to 8 servos
simultaneously and has 5 analog-to-digital inputs. All communication is
done by sending and receiving short strings. For example:
"SV1" selects a servo number 1, "M128" - moves selected servo to
position 128. Sampling of sensors is done by sending a request to sample
a desired sensor ("AD1\r"), and then receiving a value of the sensor
followed by ASCII 10 and ASCII 13.
Maybe you could modify it to have servo and RCX Motor compatible
outputs?
Interesting project, wonder if there would be an interest?
