You're much better off with a "Basic" or "Classic" set. There's currently a
red "Classic" bucket on the shelves of many stores that costs $10 and
contains 400 pieces. The "Star-Wars in a Bucket" set contains less parts
(291) and costs much more ($25). Not a good deal. Neither of these buckets
contain any Technic parts, like beams, however.

Don't forget the 3033 basic tub with 1200 pieces. Normally $20. But the
current
Kmart sale is buy one, get 50% off a second. So its a deal if you have a
need for
two or someone to share a second one with.

Keep an eye on TRU sale tables too. I have picked up quite a few technic
sets with
trashed boxes at half price and less. Any of the technic sets like the
search sub
are good source of beams and stuff if you can find them for $20. I have grabbed
a few 3038 sets for $15 recently. Also the much maligned Znap sets with motors
that go for $10 at TRU are a good deal. Even if you only keep a few of the
parts.
The motor, wire and battery box are well worth it.

I need to augment RIS 1.5 with more Lego components, sometimes to build a temporary stand and sometimes as part of a robotic concept. Lego S@H and Dacta let you buy specific parts, but perhaps just a set of toy blocks would be as good at a lower (...) (24 years ago, 20-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)
