John -

Amazing coincidence!  See my post of today.

I would urge you to get the SPIRIT SDK from http://www.legomindstorms.com/sdk/
if you haven't already, print it out, import the SPIRIT OCX into your Delphi 2
3 or 4 Component Palette, and fire away!   I think you can say that the SPIRIT
command set is pretty complete, and you can do a lot with it.

There are also several good "grownup" programming systems for the RCX
available on the web:

BotCode - Shareware $20, no souce, apparently written in Delphi, at
http://www.desktopmusic.com/botcode.htm   .  Allows you to edit and debug
programs in a language that is similar, but not identical, to Spirit commands.

MindControl - public domain, no source, apparently written in Visual Basic, at
http://homepages.svc.fcj.hvu.nl/brok/legomind/  which is Erik Brok's beautiful
"Lego On My Mind" site.  This program also allows you to download programs
written in Spirit commands to the RCX.  (You have to use something external
like NotePad to edit your program.)

Gordon's Brick Programmer - public domain, no source, maybe VB, at
http://www.umbra.demon.co.uk/gbp.html

Not Quite C - public domain, with source.  A C-like programming language
compiler for the RCX, at http://www.enteract.com/~dbaum/lego/nqc .

In addition to these, Lego sells another programming environment aimed at
schools, called RoboLab and based on National Instruments' LabView.  I bought
it from Lego Dacta for $50, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

The point of these programs is that they already provide you with a usable
programming environment, so you don't HAVE to write one yourself if you'd
rather not take the time.

Best of luck!

Is there anyone developing for the RCX using Delphi and the
Spirit OCX?

Having had Mindstorms since Saturday I am frustrated by the RIS.
The blocks are nice, but there isn't enough functionality. Even
keeping things more than simple for my 9 year old we are finding
the ability to keep state a problem. There just aren't enough
blocks: Add to counter and Reset counter, but no Subtract or Add
arbitrary number.

Will LEGO be releasing an addon pack containing more programming
blocks?
