Are there any good ways to produce TEMPORARY markings on large areas of
floor surface (mainly carpet, some linoleum) suitable for line following
robots, etc.?

Someone suggested masking tape, but that wouldn't be good for long term
usage (leaves residue when removed). I'd like something that can be left
on indefinitely (hours to weeks) without damaging the surface.

For carpet, that cloth with those tiny plastic hooks migth work. Isn't it
called "Velcroft" or something like that in Englisch ? We Dutch call it
(translated) "Burdock ribon". You can buy it in the form of a long 20-30 mm
width ribon. But try a small patch first, it can be very hard to untangle it
from certain types of carpet.
