Hi,

recently I purchased a LEGO Dacta Robotics set containing a RCX. To my
surprise, the RCX was different from that I purchased with RIS 1.5 a month ago.
The 'new' one has a socket for an external voltage supply (as I can guess from
the '9-12 V' caption placed near to it).

Can anybody tell me which of the two RCXs types is the most recently produced
one?
And a more important question: What is the orientation (where is + and -) of
the socket?
Anyway, I think the external supply option is a good thing that may help during
testing and debugging sessions.

Thanks for answering.

No one has answered your Question fully so here goes.

The RCX with the power Adapter port is the 'old' one. It's power port can take the
following:
AC or DC (It doesn't matter what direction) AC is a little easier on the RCX as it
uses both sides of the 'bridge rectifier'. There have been reports of people
blowing one side of the bridge when using too many amps.
Amps should not exceed 2 amps (2000 Mili Amps) but I've used it with 200 ma's for
projects that only need one motor on low etc.

Other then that it's exactly the same as the 1.5 brick.
From what I remember the 2.0 brick will have the power adapter back in. YAY!

I use an RC 9volt pack on one of my RCX's. IT can also 'whine' when it's low and
ask for a recharge.

Hope that helps.
