The LEDs light reduce the influence of ambient light in the readings. If
your objective is to measure ambient light in a specific direction, you can
put a 1 x 2 beam in front of it connect with a plate under it. The beam hole
will almost cover the led light and will also narrows the light sersor angle
of view.
