Can anyone explain what's the use of the LED in the light sensor?  I have a
rather weak background in EE.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The LEDs light reduce the influence of ambient light in the readings. If your objective is to measure ambient light in a specific direction, you can put a 1 x 2 beam in front of it connect with a plate under it. The beam hole will almost cover the (...) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)
