I've tried this in a room with vaulted ceilings painted white and gotten
ranges exceeding 30 feet from RCX to IR Tower (measured along the
ground). Just build your RCX robot w/ the IR port pointing straight up
at the ceiling and aim your IR tower up at the ceiling towards the
center of the room. Should give you pretty full coverage for one room.
