You can do this by making a very small program. It can be made in any
language (RCXCode, NQC) that uses the original firmware. (I'm not sure about
the other sets of firmware).
The program only needs to set one of the three sensor inputs to "light".
This way,
it accepts measurements of a light sensor. Now, upload the program to your
RCX and connect the light sensor to the selected input.
Once this is done, push the "VIEW" button on your RCX until you have a
circonflex accent (^)
under the selected input. Now pass something under the light sensor, and
you will see the value it returns on the LCD screen of the RCX. You can
also set the values the sensor returns to raw.

You really should. It's much more flexible than the RCXCode.
Hope this helps...

| I finally installed lego's mindstorm software on my PC. It seems that it won't let me do any programming until I finish the stupid tutorials. Is this true? I try clicking on other menu options, but only the blinking option works. Very aggravating. (...) (25 years ago, 25-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics)
