Seems your posting got sort of cut off. I'm sure you have more to say.
As it takes up 2 RCX output ports to control one cylinder,  you will run out
of output ports for a mobile robot. So that's a point down for the Fischer
technik implementation.


How about using a diode in each wire, (assuming single acting solenoid), then
connecting both to one output.  One opens when power is one direction, the
other one opens on the other direction (reversed polarity).
