Re: Why java is bad for Mindstorms

(...) Hi Michael, While I agree with much of what your argue above, I disagree with your conclusion. The better the official language for NXT, the more diverse the users and universal the solutions. Better the language the more people can play with (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Why java is bad for Mindstorms

Let's face ist: LEGO wants to sell Mindstorms units. And they want to sell it to the illiterate customer. Now imagine how things where at the old Mindstorms: We opened the box, piled out the brick, installed the programs on our PC and found, that (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Why Java for Robots (was NXT and bluetooth enabled phones)

(...) <Snip> Be careful with Delphi analogies - Delphi and VB tend to be very UI oriented and beware that you dont write off concepts by only seeing them from that point of view. When it comes to building models of a world, and interacting them or (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: new Mindstorms servos?

(...) Dont forget sensor ports too though! I have been in many situations where more motor, or sensor ports or both would have been very handy. (...) Understood Steve - and real kudos to you for putting it so well. You know what would really go down (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: new Mindstorms servos?

(...) Three words: "Don't make crap". At least that's how I would put it. (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: new Mindstorms servos?

(...) That does seem to be the case. (...) I'm 99% sure I've seen this addressed in the NXT material. Either in the press releases, the educational features, or the application for the 100 NXT advance program. (...) Yes, but I'm confident someone (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: new Mindstorms servos?

(...) (as you may have seen in the WIRED story) I can not possibility convey to you how much we wanted more motor ports. And we told them. Really. I mean, really, we did. We told them so often, I think we started to annoy them. Here's the problem. (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Feb. Wired is out

I just picked up a copy of the February Wired magazine. You can't mistake the cover!!!! JB (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: new Mindstorms servos?

(...) Hi Dennis, Interesting to see you posting here too (there cant be that many Dennis Clark aka DLC's in robotics). You will be happy to hear I am a proud new owner of your book. Anyway - If there is a conversion cable, I have certainly hear of (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Why Java for Robots

Bruce I guess we're going to have to differ on this one. We're talking about completely different classes of robots. This is a Lego discussion group and the vast majority of people who post here use RIS or NXT (soon) or computers of equivalent (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

Re: Pneumatic Control in 8868 Alternate Model

(...) Alas, the 9617 and 9633 Pneumatic sets are no longer in production - retired, to use the proper terminology. So also has the 5218 pneumatic pack and much other useful pneumatic stuff. The current sets are the 8421 and the 8436. You would be (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic, FTX)

Re: Why Java for Robots (university vs hobbyists)

(...) Maybe we are at cross purposes here. You may be right, that for many hobbyists, Java is too advanced and complex, and since their needs are simpler, C is more than enough. Ease of use and low cost is probably more important than computing (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Why Java for Robots (was NXT and bluetooth enabled phones)

  Re: NXT release date.

(...) Yeah, I can understand though I still contend 100 is too small darn it! But your point is well understood (especially by me who has dealt with countless examples of this scenario). (...)   Re: NXT release date.
