Well, I finally got my Polaroid sonar module in the mail, and I got it working with my Handy Board tonight. My feelings thus far: This thing is pretty neat.   15' max measurement
 
Yup, it looks like 15' is about as far as I can measure. In fact, if the distance is _too_ great, I start getting weird measurements, on the order of 8 or 9 feet. Strange. I turned the gain up a bit, which keeps those erratic measurements from (...) (29 years ago, 14-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) I believe it would matter what type of material you reflect the pulse off of, I would guess. Different surfaces have differenc acoustical properties. Just like they have those silent rooms and echo chambers, etc. (29 years ago, 14-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) I beleive "hard" rigid materials have high reflectivity of sound, such as metal and granite, etc. Pourous materials absorb sound, like brick and wood.
