I agree with your general impressions, except that ...

... this is too high a price to pay for 3 (semi)useful pieces and some
rubberbands. I don't count the SPUD/POOP chassis or the soft plastic
slammer, because I don't feel they are very useful.
At $1.00USD, they're a reasonable deal. At $.50USD, I'd probably buy a
bunch of them. I believe these numbers are suspiciously close to the
results Larry P. obtained from an unscientific survey conducted at my house
while I wasn't there.
