I can answer some of these...

In lugnet.reviews, Ed Mayhall writes:

Here are the things I mentioned in the email that I wrote them:

1. The binoculars with night vision. - I have used Photoshop to make my own
image and saved it as a TGA (with alpha channel - I knew about this and it was
a good thing since there is no mention of needing one) and a BMP.  Neither • show
up in the Pictures area.  The only way I can get things to show up is if I
rename them to something already in use. For example, one image I renamed
snow-1.tga and when I grabbed the snow-1 image in the app it was actually my
new image.  The help file said all I had to do was make the image in a • graphics
program and throw it in the directory. Is there something I am doing wrong or
is this feature not really added?

I have never tried this, I only assumed it worked.  That SUCKS.  Generally, I
have found the Studios software very buggy.  I have had luck importing sounds,
but never the overlays.

2. Focus. - When I was viewing the tips there was a mention of a focus option.
Where is this focus?  I have looked on the camera and throughout the
application but I can not find anything on changing the focus.

You must focus with the manual focus (the yellow) ring on the camera.  There is
absolutely no other way to do this.

3. Multiple Sounds and Pictures. - I have heard multiple sounds in some of the
tip clips.  Like an alarm going as the motorcycle speeds off.  How is this
done?  I can only add one sound in the track for a certain amount of time.  If
I add another sound it snaps to the end or beginning of the previous sound.  I
would like to do the same with the pictures.  For example, have the binoculars
and the nightvision at the same time.  Is this something that can be done or
that will hopefully be added soon? (*I did find a way to have two sound • effects
at once.  One clip can go in the Music track and one goes in the Sound track. • I
did this in the Ninja Madness movie. I still think there should be more sound
tracks so I can add a couple more things here and there.*)

Yep, I have found this too.  You can't overlay sounds, but must put one in
"Sound effects" and one in "music".  You can also mix the effects as one
track using an outside editor and put that .wav in the timeline using the
studios software.

4. Movie sizes. - Why are the finished movies only MPGs?  I notice you have
MOVs for the tips and sample movies so is there anyway we can have that • feature
added?  I don't mind the file size as long as the movie is good and people can
really enjoy it.

I'll tell you why.  It's a BIG F%#KING LIE. :)

None, I repeat, none of the clips that come with studios, or on their web site,
are made with the studios program.  This is why their movies look so much
crisper than ours.  I think we should, as consumers, call LEGO on this false
advertising.  You CANNOT make your movies as good quality as come in the clips.
An analogy would be to sell someone a programming language (say, a copy of MS
Visual Basic) and include compiled programs as "examples" of what you can do
with their software.  But the people who sold it to you actually used C++ to
make the compiled programs.

It's terribly false advertising, so be warned anyone who is thinking of buying
it.  And, FYI, you CANNOT change the resolution of the camera and use it with
the Studios software.

I will add one last thing.  I am not trying to rip on the set too much.  It's
overpriced, but you can actually make decent movies with it.  Just don't expect
to make anything near professional quality with the camera and software
included.  The software is targeted toward children who are apparently not that
bright and will be impressed with what they get anyway.  I like the set, and am
using it now.  It's a fun set, and worth it of you want to make quick movies or
animations.  But I am finding all kinds of annoying limitations as my project
gets bigger and bigger.  If you are serious about lego animation, I'd use it as
a test, then buy better software to edit with (You can still use the nifty LEGO
cam to film at 640X480).

About the Tips section...it mentions things like:
-How to make a character run (also seen on the studios site)
-Using a dolly attached to the car so the camera stays even with the car
-How they made the shark look like it was coming out of water
-How to make an object fly in the air without using strings.
-How to make rain (which is part of the program and changing it will not • happen
because of my 1st problem I wrote them in the email)
-How they had Johnny hanging from the pit in the Temple of Gloom clip.
-Using string to make the car jump the ramp
(Most of the tips used the accessories that do not come with the main
set..imagine that.)
