After my shopping at Zellers, I headed over to a store called Best Value (soon
to e renamed Zellers Select). Before the Dark Ages it was a KMart where I
often bought Lego, but I was not sure if it would still have any as a Zellers
clearance house. Well, I was certainly surprised to find a Lego heaven of many
rare small-mid sized 1998 sets!
Adventurers 5958 Mummy's Tomb
Adventurers 5918 Scorpion Trekker car
Adventurers 5938 Oasis Ambush
Insectoids 6905 Bi-Wing Blaster
Insectoids 6837 ant-shaped vehicle

Ninja 6083 Samauri Stronghold
Ninja 6089 stone bridge
Ninja 6088 Robber's Retreat
Ninja 6045 cave with flying ninja
Ninja 6033 treasure cart
Ninja Blaze Attack (1999, not sure of number)
Extreme Team 6572 wind racer
Extreme Team race car (1999, not sure of number)
Res-Q 6445 Emergency Evac
Space Port Value Pack (1999)
Great selecion. Unfortunately, Best Value didn't live up to its name. All of
the sets were at MSRP, and the 30% for discontinueds (all of these were) did
not apply! So, I had to limit myself. I wanted the 6837 and the 6445. Well,
I really wanted the 6088, but it was $43 and I didn't have that much left. I
took the 6445, since it had a higer piece count. Came out to $16 after taxes!
Yikes! Since I had a cardboard tray from my 6915 Warp Wing-Fighter, I felt
safe assembling this in the van on the way home. My first reaction was "Wow,
what a bright shade of orange on his torso!" Its true, and itst at all hinted
on the box. After admiring the unique figure, I assembled the van. It is an
excellent model with little juniorization. The double-hinged roof plate may be
unique to this model. It is definately a first for me. The driver does not get
a steering wheel, he has to use two control sticks. This is my only gripe.
There is enough room for the included stretcher to slide into the back of the
rescue van, and the back opens up in a unique way due ot the double-hinged
plate. The van alone may be worth $10, but not $14. Luckily, there was an
extra small trailer. It doesn't look like much, but it is fun. Its main
feature is a roll of string. It is possibly the longest piece of string ever
used in a Lego set, and takes a while to unroll. You need to use the wheel,
pulling will only rip the hook off (but you just tie it back on). Snapped onto
the back is one of my favourite minifig acessories, the pulley. With the hook
secured to a chair, the tv, or anything else it latches under, the worker can
use it to slide down. Fun. This is a very acessory-filled set. There is a
walkie-talkie, a shovel, binoculars, an ice pick (or two, counting the extra
pieces), a circular saw, a jackhammer, a flashlight, and the pulley. Being one
of the less exravagent Res-Q vehicles, it looks good a regular old town setup.
Overall, what's not to like about this set? It looks okay, is fun to play
with, and best of all, IT WASN'T MADE IN LESS THAN 40 PIECES!
