Hi,

If this is the wrong forum for this question, I'd be happy to redirect it,
if you will give me some pointers on where it should go.  After looking over
the forums I knew about, this one seemed most appropriate for this question.
If I made a bad choice, I'm sorry.  I'll know better next time!

So, on to my question...

I'm relatively recently back into Lego's, and I'm having a great time with a
couple of little sets I recently purchased.  One of the things I'd like to
do is to keep a complete inventory of what parts come in what kits.  I see
that the Lugnut home page has a repository for set inventories.  So, using
this as a basis, I have set out to inventory a small Technics set.  Namely,
8215, the Gyro-Copter.

I think I've got a pretty good start on it, I looked at the other
inventories and Jim Hughes's  Technics Element Registry, and I'm emulating
that format.  I'd like to submit this inventory to the repository when I'm
done.

My problem is that I can't find the 4 digit ID codes for most of the small
parts.  Like the angle blocks, the axles, the gears or the some of the small
tiles.  I have found the ID numbers on the larger pieces and these match
what other people have recorded in their inventories.

Where do people find ID numbers for these small parts?  I could try to match
other peoples descriptions and use ID numbers they have found.  This would
work for some of the pieces (like axles and gears).   But some of the pieces
are a little hard to match only by description.  And besides, I don't feel
that I can 'verify' the inventory when I'm relying on other peoples numbers.

So to date, I have left about half of the ID fields blank in my inventory.
Is still of any use to the repository?  Or can someone help me figure out
how to determine the ID numbers for the remaining parts?

Sorry for the long winded question.  Just trying to learn.

There are several ways to find out part numbers. One is a parts reference page at: (URL) Another way is the LDraw parts list, which will at least give you known part numbers and descriptions for elements which have been created for LDraw. As a last (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-98, to lugnet.reviews)
