BTW, you might want to experiment (or look up if there is an official use)
with some browsers to see whether any of them convert '+' to ' ' in the
'subject=' portion of the URL...  You'd think they would, because they
should, but I noticed that at least Netscape 4.5 doesn't.

(...) Thanks, and sorry if I should have started this thread in .publish. '+' to ' ' (space char?) ? Hmm. Hadn't thought that translation/filtering of subject lines actually occurred. I thought that was just for URLs. But I guess technically the (...) (26 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.publish)
